Roche Holding is scheduled to report results for the second quarter and the first half on Thursday. Here is what you need to know:
SALES FORECAST: Analysts expect the Swiss pharmaceutical group to report second-quarter sales of 15.55 billion Swiss francs ($19.13 billion), according to consensus estimates provided by the company. For the same period last year, Roche reported sales of 15.50 billion francs.
CORE EARNINGS FORECAST: Roche is expected to report core earnings per share--one of its preferred profit metrics--of 10.17 francs for the first half of the year, according to the company-compiled consensus. For the first half of 2025, it posted core EPS of 11.08 francs.
Roche's nonvoting shares--the most widely traded--rose 5.8% during the second quarter. Since the start of the year through Tuesday's close, the stock gained 1.7%.
WHAT TO WATCH
--DRUG LAUNCH: With limited results of late-stage clinical trials due in the second half, all eyes shift to Roche's expectations for the launch of its new breast-cancer drug giredestrant. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is due to decide on its approval by Nov. 30, and executives at Roche have signaled they anticipate commercialization to start this year with a strong launch. Analysts at Citi estimate the drug could bring in $14.5 billion in annual sales at its peak. Roche's commercial infrastructure in breast cancer means giredestrant could boost profit margins, according to UBS.
--DIAGNOSTICS: In addition to new pharma products, investors can also expect the rollout of potentially large products in the group's diagnostics business, Vontobel's Stefan Schneider wrote in a recent note. The division is launching three new products for continuous glucose monitoring, mass-spectrometry testing and gene sequencing that led Roche to guide for diagnostics sales growth in the mid to high single digit percentage range over the long term.
--OUTLOOK: For 2026, Roche expects group sales to grow by a figure in the mid single digit range, and core EPS to rise by a high single digit when excluding currency changes. The company is unlikely to change its guidance at the half-year results, Citi analysts said.
