JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and other US banks are close to agreeing to provide financing for projects under Japan's $550 billion US investment plan, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing unnamed people familiar with the discussions.
According to the report, participation of US banks would help Japan meet its 2025 trade commitments, as Japanese lenders remain reluctant because of the high cost of long-term US dollar funding.
Japan has announced more than $100 billion in projects under the plan, but only about $2.2 billion in financing has been secured, Reuters reported. Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said no decisions have been made on US bank participation and that discussions are ongoing.
JPMorgan did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
