ABB Disappoints with Higher Corporate Costs

Dow Jones07-21

0805 GMT - ABB delivered strong headline growth for the second quarter, but disappointed with high corporate costs, leading to an overall miss to earnings, RBC Capital Markets analysts say in a research note. "We regard these costs as largely one-offs in nature," RBC says. Meanwhile, the Swiss industrial-technology company still dominates the 800-volt data-center narrative, but it is too early to see if it can structurally outgrow its direct peer Schneider Electric, the analysts say. ABB now trades at a 42% valuation premium to the sector, but further margin upgrades are needed for outperformance, they add. Shares trade 1% higher at 80.26 Swiss francs. (nina.kienle@wsj.com)
