Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia Likely a Gradual Policy Evolution, not Major Shift

Dow Jones07-22

0419 GMT - The establishment of Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia marks the next stage in Indonesia's long-term resource governance strategy rather than a departure from existing policy, RHB economist Wong Xian Yong says in a note. The regulation establishing DSI should be interpreted as expanding the government's policy tool, rather than signaling an immediate overhaul of Indonesia's export market, he says. DSI's economic significance will ultimately depend on how the regulation is implemented, he adds. At this stage, Wong says DSI doesn't replace the responsibilities of existing institutions or immediately centralize strategic commodity exports. RHB expects modest near-term macroeconomic impact, maintaining forecasts for 2026 GDP growth of 5.0% and inflation of 2.8%, while expecting Bank Indonesia to keep its policy rate at 6.0% over 2026-2027.
