Dow Jones07-24

Boston Beer reported lower profit, as second quarter sales decreased.

The beverage company reported net income of $51.6 million, or $4.96 a share, compared with $60.4 million, or $5.45 a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-time items, the company reported adjusted earnings of $3.65 a share. Analysts polled by FactSet were expecting $4.83 a share.

Net revenue fell 3.3% to $568.3 million. Analysts were expecting $566.7 million.

The company reported shipment volume decreased 4.5% year-over-year to 2 million barrels due to decreases in Twisted Tea, Truly, Samuel Adams, Hard Mountain Dew and Dogfish Head brands that were partially offset by increases in Sun Cruiser and Angry Orchard brands

Depletions, a measure of sales by distributors to retailers which is seen as an indicator of demand, fell 6%.

Chief Executive Jim Koch said as the company navigates a challenging operating environment, it remains focused on marketplace execution for the remainder of the summer selling season and improving market share trends.

Boston Beer forecast fiscal 2026 adjusted earnings to be between $8.50 and $10.50 a share. It also expects a net loss of $4.23 to $6.23 a share. Analysts polled by FactSet were expecting adjusted earnings per share to be $9.38 and a net loss of $5.93 a share.
