Intel and Fortinet said they would collaborate to develop Fortinet's Security Processor 6, a microchip designed to take over heavy cybersecurity tasks.
The companies said the strategic collaboration would combine Fortinet's proprietary security processor expertise with Intel's advanced design, packaging and manufacturing capabilities.
Intel Chief Executive Lip-Bu Tan said the partnership reflects how semiconductor companies can help cybersecurity leaders accelerate the development of security technologies while building a more diversified global supply chain.
The companies said they would explore additional opportunities to deepen collaboration across semiconductor technology, manufacturing and the infrastructure underpinning cybersecurity innovation.
Fortinet is a cybersecurity company that develops custom security processing units.
