Biohaven (BHVN) said Monday that a federal jury has awarded it $1 million in damages over an alleged trade secret misappropriation by Avilar Therapeutics and RA Capital Management.
The jury found that after Yale shared confidential technical information about its MODA targeted protein degradation platform with RA Capital related to a possible deal, RA Capital shared the technology with Avilar Therapeutics to develop a rival platform, the company said.
Biohaven said it licensed the MODA platform from Yale, which was developed by Yale professor David Spiegel, to develop and commercialize the technology.
Yale received $2 million for RA Capital's breach of contract, and $1 million for trade secret misappropriation.
"This verdict confirms what we have said since we filed this case: RA Capital and Avilar improperly used confidential information to advance a competing company, and the jury agreed that they did so willfully and maliciously," Biohaven Chief Executive Vlad Coric said in a statement.
Avilar and RA Capital did not immediately respond to a request to comment from MT Newswires.
