AMC, IMAX Report Strong 'Odyssey' Ticket Sales in Second Weekend

AMC Entertainment's (AMC) AMC Theatres said Monday that Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" generated $87 million at the domestic box office during its second weekend.

IMAX (IMAX) reported $48 million in global IMAX box office sales over the weekend, bringing the film's total IMAX box office to $140 million. The movie generated $24 million from 443 IMAX screens in North America and another $24 million from 450 IMAX screens internationally during the weekend, the company said.

AMC said "The Odyssey" has earned about $286 million in North America and about $640 million worldwide as of July 26. The company said that IMAX screens have been "singularly responsible" for a significant percentage of sales, with AMC operating about half of all IMAX screens in the US.

AMC shares were up 2.2% in premarket trading, while IMAX was up 3.2%.
