Mercedes-Benz Recalls More than 300,000 Vehicles over Rollaway Risk

Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than 300,000 vehicles in the U.S. because a faulty driver-door switch could prevent the automatic-parking brake from engaging, increasing the risk of a vehicle rolling away and of a potential crash.

The recall covers up to about 310,667 vehicles, including certain A-Class, CLA, C-Class, CLE, GLA, GLB and GLC models from various years between 2019 and 2026.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, corrosion in a micro-switch within the driver's door lock may prevent the vehicle from detecting that the driver's door is open. As a result, the electronic parking brake, or auto-park feature, may fail to engage automatically, creating a rollaway risk, it said.

Dealers will replace the driver's door lock free of charge, the regulator said. Owner-notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 18, it added. Vehicle-identification numbers affected by the recall will be searchable on NHTSA's website beginning July 31.
