Situational Awareness Stock Sale is a Driver Behind Tech-Stock Rally, Investors Say
Dow Jones07-31 17:21
The rally in tech stocks is being fueled by relief after a massive sale of stock by the AI-focused investment firm Situational Awareness, according to investors.
Deep losses in Situational's portfolio prompted Leopold Aschenbrenner's firm to sell the bulk of its stockholdings to Ken Griffin's investment firm Citadel to cover margin calls from its lenders.
News of that transaction removes a big reason for investors to worry about the prospect of forced selling by Situational, giving them confidence to move back into AI-related stocks, two hedge-fund managers said. A broader reason: The rotation out of AI stocks-the spark for the crisis at Situational-is now over.
