Robinhood Markets reported a double digit gain in revenue for the second quarter and beat expectations for profit, but shares were falling after hours.
Shares of the mobile trading platform were down 1.3% to $8.67 after initially rising. They closed down 3% in the regular session to $89.84.
The company reported second quarter earnings of 62 cents a share and revenue of $1.3 billion, up 32.5% from a year earlier. Wall Street had expected earnings of 43 cents a share and revenue of $1.29 billion.
Management said the business was “firing on all cylinders,” with a 44% jump in transaction-based revenue, to $776 million.
Event contracts revenue was up 10-fold, to $156 million, and equities revenue was up 95% to $129 million. With a 29% jump in options trading revenue to $342 million, the transactions were able to overcome a 38% drop in cryptocurrencies trading revenue.
Other revenue, largely from Trump Account service revenue and Robinhood Gold subscriptions, rose 54% to $143 million.
Total operating expenses rose 33% to $734 million, driven primarily by marketing and growth investments but also by one-time charges associated with job cuts in June.
Leading up to the earnings report, investors and analysts were prepared to look closely at just how much the recent downturn in cryptocurrency trading has weighed on the brokerage firm’s results.
Even though Robinhood offers a variety of financial services and products, it derives a significant chunk of revenue from crypto trading, which has declined in previous quarters.
Bitcoin is down 47% over the past 12 months and was trading at $63,115 as of midmorning Tuesday.
Although crypto trading may be in a slump, Robinhood’s prediction markets offering has taken off. The platform allows customers to place wagers on the outcome of events, such as whether the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates or which team will win the World Cup.
Shares of Robinhood have struggled this year. In June, the company said it would cut around one-tenth of its full-time employees. Robinhood had about 2,900 workers at the end of 2025.
Robinhood said it introduced agentic trading in May, giving users the ability to trade equities, options, and crypto through AI-powered agents. Nearly 100,000 users had opened Agentic Trading accounts to date, with over $100 million in assets under custody.
Prediction markets also reached a new milestone in June, Robinhood said, with the start of Rothera, which is a licensed exchange independently managed through a joint venture with Susquehanna International Group. So far, it has traded 3.5 billion contracts.
