Thailand's Retail Sales Contract 14.5% in May

Retail sales in Thailand fell 14.5% year over year in May, according to the Retail Sales Index (RSI) compiled by the Bank of Thailand and released on Friday.

The reading, compared with a 20% decrease recorded in the previous month, missed the 13% forecast by Trading Economics.

By broad product category, sales of non-durable goods, which include food, beverages, and pharmaceutical items in specialized stores, fell 3.5% year over year.

The durable goods subindex, tracking electronics, household appliances, and hardware components, registered a 3.3% jump.
