Microsoft (MSFT) is facing investigation in the UK over concerns that the company may not have released clear, upfront information on changes to Microsoft 365 personal and family subscription plans, the UK's Competition and Markets Authority said Wednesday.
The regulator said Microsoft gave subscribers access to new features starting January 2025, at no extra cost, but when their subscriptions ended, they were automatically subscribed to a plan with the additional features at a higher price. The company stopped offering the personal and family plans to new subscribers without the additional features, the CMA added.
The investigation is focused on whether customers were misled about the subscription plans and whether they were provided key information to understand their options, according to the statement.
Microsoft did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
