Mousterian and Samsung Heavy Industries signed an engineering contract to work on a moored floating data center deployment in the U.S.

Mousterian, a data center infrastructure developer, and SHI, a shipbuilder and maritime engineering firm, will jointly perform the design and engineering for the floating data center units, the companies said Monday. Each will deliver 50 megawatts of IT capacity, planned for deployment in Texas and other U.S. markets.

The contract marks the first definitive project agreement under the companies' cooperation framework announced in April.

The companies said the pilot deployment aims to show that purpose-built floating data centers, located adjacent to existing power generation assets, can shorten delivery timelines for hyperscale and AI compute.

The program establishes a baseline for a definitive engineering, procurement and construction contract, the companies said. They plan to execute that contract before or upon completing the engineering works.
