New Month, Same Jitters: AI Anxiety Creeps into August

Dow Jones08-03

Investors are kicking off a new trading month on an upbeat note, with U.S. stock futures rising before the opening bell.

But that hasn't stopped one of July's most painful trends from carrying into August.

Chip stocks and other companies tied to the AI trade are some of the biggest decliners in premarket trading today, with Micron Technology, Sandisk and Western Digital all down 3% or more.

Meanwhile, a broad basket of stocks-airlines, software companies and homebuilders-are all rising premarket. That's showing up, too, in the divergence of futures tied to major indexes. Contracts tied to the Dow are up more than 1% this morning, while Nasdaq-100 futures are barely higher.
