15:01 ET - The dollar weakens against the yen as authorities signal that an intervention could be imminent. WSJ reports the U.S. Treasury has informed banks it might make trades to beef up the yen. Investors have been speculating an international effort could be in the works to bring the yen back from historic lows reached last week. Bannockburn's Marc Chandler is skeptical of intervention, which remains unconfirmed and, he says, should happen without warning. "Element of surprise. Gone," he says in an email. The yen trades around 159 per dollar, stronger than and 160 this morning. The WSJ Dollar Index falls 0.1%.
