Hong Kong Stocks Gain at Open as Oil Slump Lifts Sentiment

MT Newswires Live08-03 09:33

Hong Kong stocks opened higher on Monday as falling oil prices and hopes for easing tensions in the Middle East lifted investor sentiment.

The Hang Seng Index rose 0.4%, or 102.88 points, to 25,987.31, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gained 0.5%, or 46.97 points, to 8,659.12.

Oil prices tumbled after U.S. President Donald Trump said talks with Iran would take place on Monday, raising hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough that could reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Investors are also monitoring developments in Japan after Tokyo and Washington confirmed coordinated intervention to support the yen.
