Scott Balfour, CEO of Halifax-based Emera Inc., says it’s smart for the three Maritime governments to work toward establishing a unified electricity system operator for their provinces. New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and P.E.I. agreed last month to create a regional road map for electricity transmission by the spring and to consider creating an independent operator to manage power delivery in the region. Latest updates on company news hereBalfour told business analysts in a call following the release of Emera’s second quarter financial results on Friday that plans for large-scale energy transmission infrastructure in the region could support renewable energy. He mentioned Nova Scotia wind energy and New Brunswick’s plans to add more nuclear power as electricity sources that could be shipped west.
