Market Chatter: Alibaba Plans Revenue-Sharing Model for Next Qwen AI Release

MT Newswires Live08-07

Alibaba (HKG:9988) plans to require major users of the next version of its Qwen open-source artificial intelligence model to share a portion of the revenue they generate from commercial use, Reuters reported, citing two people familiar with the matter.

The policy is expected to apply to large-scale commercial users of the upcoming Qwen3.8-Max model and could be introduced as early as next week, the report said.

The change would expand Alibaba's monetization beyond Alibaba Cloud, where it already charges developers, to certain commercial users of its open-source AI models, Reuters said.

Alibaba did not immediately respond to MTNewswires' request for comment.
