Bitcoin Eyes Upside Breakout Ahead of US July Nonfarm Payrolls?

TradingKey08-07 16:50

TradingKey - Bitcoin price fluctuates above $64,000, with the upcoming July non-farm payrolls data key to breaking the consolidation deadlock.

On August 7, Bitcoin ( BTC) price continues to oscillate above $74,000, falling 0.6% today to trade at $64,278. Since early June, Bitcoin prices have fluctuated widely within the $58,000 to $67,000 range, currently remaining above the middle band as bulls hold the upper hand. Under these circumstances, can the upcoming non-farm payrolls data boost the BTC price to break through the key resistance level of $67,000 of the past two months?

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is scheduled to officially release the July 2026 non-farm payroll (NFP) report and unemployment rate data at 8:30 AM Eastern Time today. The current median market consensus estimate falls between 80,000 and 97,000, with the unemployment rate expected to remain at 4.2%, flat from June.

If the released data is significantly weaker than expected, indicating an accelerated cooling of the labor market, the market will bet on the Federal Reserve moving away from a hawkish wait-and-see stance toward policy easing. Consequently, the US Dollar Index (DXY) and US Treasury yields will move lower, encouraging capital inflows into high-beta risk assets and cryptocurrencies, and driving BTC to break through key range resistance. Conversely, if the data far exceeds expectations, BTC may face short-term pullback pressure, continuing to test the bottom at $58,000. In the third scenario, where the data is basically in line with expectations, Bitcoin will remain range-bound due to a lack of upward momentum.

Although the market hopes the non-farm payrolls data will drive Bitcoin to break out of its two-month range, the Coinbase Bitcoin Premium Index has seen negative premiums for 80 consecutive days, marking the longest consecutive negative streak since the indicator's launch. This suggests that U.S. institutional capital is still choosing to stay on the sidelines, which is clearly unfavorable for Bitcoin's price gains. Therefore, one should not impose personal expectations on the market, so as to avoid unnecessary losses.
