Shares of Gray Media climbed after the company swung to a profit in the latest quarter and guided for revenue to continue to outperform expectations.
The stock rose 25% to $5.36 on Friday, putting it up 12% year to date.
Gray before the bell reported a second-quarter profit of $21 million, or 21 cents a share, compared with a loss of $69 million, or 71 cents a share, a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected a quarterly loss of 10 cents a share.
Total revenue, excluding agency commissions, came in at $839 million, up 8.7% from a year ago and ahead of the $795.1 million that Wall Street modeled.
Chief Executive Hilton Howell said the latest quarter's results reflect the benefits of recent M&A activity, which has seen the broadcast company add stations in 22 markets. Gray is also benefiting from stepped-up political advertising, with revenues trending ahead of both 2024 and 2022 year-to-date levels, he added.
Looking ahead, Gray guided for revenue of $935 million to $965 million in the third quarter, ahead of analyst views for $896.2 million.
