Lookonchain puts the company's total disposals since the treasury program began at 7,281 BTC, worth about $545 million at an average sale price of $74,855.Trump Media disputes that framing. A company spokesperson told The Block the bitcoin was \"transferred, but not sold\" — the same explanation the company gave for a similar move in May. On-chain data confirms the transfer to Crypto.com; it doesn't confirm a disposal.There's a structural reason the distinction matters. The balance left in Trump Media's tagged wallets — about 4,261 BTC — nearly matches the 4,260.73 BTC the company's own Q1 10-Q discloses as collateral pledged against its convertible notes as of March 31. Per that filing, the company can't withdraw or dispose of the pledged bitcoin until it satisfies loan indenture terms, with restrictions lifting no later than the notes' maturity on May 29, 2028. If the tagged wallets are in fact the collateral, Trump Media's freely disposable bitcoin position may already be close to zero.What isn't in dispute is the entry price. As Blockhead reported when the treasury was first announced in May 2025, Trump Media raised $2.5 billion — $1.5 billion in stock and $1 billion in convertible notes — explicitly modeled on Michael Saylor's Strategy playbook, to buy 11,542 BTC for about $1.37 billion, averaging $118,522 per coin. Its Q1 filing shows 9,542.16 BTC on the balance sheet against a $1.13 billion cost basis as of March 31, plus another 2,000 BTC held as collateral against covered-call options. Bitcoin has since fallen from its October 2025 high of roughly $126,080 to about $63,000 — near enough to a halving that CoinDesk's on-chain analysis puts the damage at roughly $318 million in realized losses and another $237 million unrealized, in the same range as Lookonchain's combined estimate of about $555 million. Neither figure is company-confirmed; both assume the exchange transfers were sales at prevailing prices, which Trump Media disputes.The first-quarter results give a cleaner picture of the damage regardless of how the recent transfers are eventually classified. Trump Media reported a $405.9 million net loss for Q1 2026. Per the company's 10-Q, $243.96 million of that was booked as \"unrealized loss on digital assets and digital assets pledged\" — bitcoin, Cronos, and the pledged collateral combined, not bitcoin alone. Revenue for the quarter was $871,200, up 6% year-over-year — a reminder of how small the operating business still is next to the treasury's swings.Truth API's numbers are already realTruth API launched August 1 with paying customers in place — a rarity for a company whose core media business generates well under $1 million a quarter. The service, aimed at hedge funds and algorithmic trading firms, delivers posts from Trump's account and nine other high-ranking Truth Social accounts within milliseconds of publication. Pricing runs up to $100,000 a month, or $60,000 with a three-year commitment. At least five institutional clients — reported to include trading firms and financial news organizations — signed up ahead of launch.The arithmetic is straightforward: one full-price annual subscription ($1.2 million) already exceeds the company's entire quarterly revenue. Five full-price subscribers would generate $500,000 a month, or $6 million a year — a small number in absolute terms, but the first Trump Media product with a growth trajectory that doesn't depend on crypto prices.The market has noticed. DJT stock has risen roughly 48% from its June 26 all-time low of $6.96, closing at $10.38 on July 30. Forbes estimated the rally added $600 million to Trump's net worth — largely through his stake in Trump Media, held via the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust with Donald Trump Jr. as trustee — pushing its estimate of his total wealth to $6.5 billion. The rally tracks the Truth API announcement and launch more closely than it tracks bitcoin's decline, which suggests investors are pricing the data business, not the treasury or the social network, as the company's next catalyst.The insider-trading questionTruth API isn't a general market-data product. It sells early access to posts from the sitting president and his most-followed allies — accounts whose statements have moved markets before. Trump's June 10 post naming Citigroup by ticker preceded the stock outperforming a falling market that day, and traders have pointed to a July post in which he said a memorandum of understanding with Iran had collapsed, ahead of a bitcoin drop. His April 2025 post pausing tariffs moved every major index.Democrats in both chambers have asked the SEC to look at this, and neither has gotten a substantive answer. Rep. Ritchie Torres wrote to SEC Chair Paul Atkins on July 20, four days after the Truth API announcement, asking the Commission to evaluate the product against insider-trading, market-manipulation, and broker-dealer rules and to coordinate with the CFTC and the Office of Government Ethics. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff followed on July 28 with a similar letter, calling the product \"an outrageous abuse of the President's office for his personal benefit.\" Both cite the same underlying figure: Trump's financial stake in Trump Media at roughly 41% — a number the 10-Q confirms directly. The Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust has held a fixed 114,750,000 shares since December 2024, and the filing's cover page puts total shares outstanding at 276,953,828 as of May 6, 2026 — 114,750,000 ÷ 276,953,828 works out to 41.4%. (A commonly cited 52% figure is stale; it reflects the trust's stake before the 2025 equity raise that funded the bitcoin treasury diluted the share count.) That means a share of every Truth API subscription flows back to the trust. It's also not the first time Trump's personal crypto interests have collided with his office: Blockhead reported in May that ethics language limiting the president's personal crypto ventures was a contested point in CLARITY Act negotiations, the same month disclosures showed Trump family crypto profits — from the TRUMP meme coin and World Liberty Financial — topping $1 billion.The SEC has confirmed receipt of both letters and, a week after launch, still hasn't said anything further. That's consistent with the direction Blockhead flagged at the start of the year: Atkins was appointed by Trump, and the SEC's last Democratic commissioner departed shortly before, leaving the agency without a dissenting voice on crypto-friendly rulemaking.Neither letter delayed the launch, and Truth API opened on schedule with customers already signed. Trump Media's general counsel has rejected the insider-trading framing, arguing the service merely speeds delivery of information that's already public — a response that doesn't fully answer the objection either lawmaker raised, which turns less on secrecy than on unequal timing.Two precedents are the closest analogues regulators have handled before, and both ended the same way. In 2013, Thomson Reuters gave premium clients the University of Michigan consumer-sentiment index two seconds ahead of the public release, for as much as $6,025 a month, before then-New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's office ended the arrangement. In February 2014, Business Wire terminated its direct feeds to high-frequency trading firms under the same pressure. Truth API is priced at roughly sixteen times what the Michigan data commanded — and unlike those cases, the person whose statements are being sold early is also the regulator's boss.Two bets, two outcomesTrump Media is now running a natural experiment in how to monetize a president's platform. The bitcoin treasury bet on an asset the company can't influence, lost more than half a billion dollars doing it, and — if the collateral math holds — has little discretionary bitcoin left to sell before 2028 regardless. Truth API bets on something the company can influence: how often, and how usefully, Trump posts.
