Market Chatter: HSBC Sells Tokyo HQ, Prepares Move to New Station-Side Tower

HSBC (HKG:0005) has offloaded its Tokyo headquarters building in Nihonbashi to a Mitsubishi HC Capital (TYO:8593) unit, while leasing back the space until its new office is ready, Bloomberg News reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

HSBC Japan CEO Takeo Kaneko said in a LinkedIn post on Wednesday that the bank is relocating to a new building in the Yaesu 2-Chome area, near Tokyo Station, in 2029.

HSBC declined to comment.
