Japan Earnings Wrap: Resonac, Nintendo Climb; Softbank Group Slips

Japanese stocks reporting earnings traded mixed on Friday, with gains led by chemical manufacturers and video game console makers, while technology investment companies declined.

Resonac's (TYO:4004) shares jumped over 5% after attributable profit for the first half soared 147% to 48.5 billion yen.

Earnings per share increased to 240.25 yen while revenue rose 5.4% to 676.9 billion yen.

The chemicals manufacturer forecasts an attributable profit of 112.5 billion yen, basic EPS of 606.32 yen, revenue of 1.165 trillion yen, and a total dividend of 65 yen per share for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31.

The company revised the forecast for revenue in a downward manner as the Crasus Chemical segment will be treated as a discontinued operation after its planned partial spinoff in 2026, according to a separate filing

Nintendo's (TYO:7974) shares gained nearly 4% after reporting profit attributable to owners surged 54% to 147.4 billion yen for the fiscal first quarter.

The video game giant's earnings per share increased to 127.88 yen but net sales fell 9.5% to 517.8 billion yen for the three months ended June 30.

For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, the company expects attributable profit of 310 billion yen, earnings per share of 268.90 yen, and net sales of 2.05 trillion yen.

SoftBank Group's (TYO:9984) shares declined 6% after fiscal first quarter earnings came in lower. It posted an 18% year-over-year decline in attributable net income for the three months ended June to 347.3 billion yen.

The tech-focused investment holding group's EPS was 59.85 yen while net sales rose 11% to 2.020 trillion yen. The company plans to pay interim and year-end dividends of 5.50 yen per share each for the current year.
