Kodiak Sciences (KOD) said late Monday that the first patients have been enrolled in the phase 3 trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of the KSI-501 candidate to treat diabetic macular edema.

The primary endpoint of the trial is the mean change in best-corrected visual acuity from baseline to the average of week 48 and week 52, while the key secondary endpoint is the proportion of patients improving two or more steps on the Diabetic Retinopathy Severity Scale from baseline at week 48, the company said.

The company estimates that 910 patients will partake in the randomized trial, according to a statement.
