Micron Stock Keeps Surging Toward $1,000 Mark as SanDisk Boost Ignites Memory Sector

TradingKey - Positive SanDisk news ignites memory sector as Micron surges toward critical $1,000 mark.

On August 14 Eastern Time, Micron Technology (MU) continued its rebound, gaining 1.75% in overnight trading to temporarily trade at $966.42. Yesterday, catalyzed by positive guidance from SanDisk (SNDK), memory stocks broadly rallied, with SK Hynix (SKHY) and Western Digital (WDC) both jumping over 7%, Seagate Technology (STX) rising nearly 5%, and Micron advancing over 4%.

On August 13, SanDisk unveiled a strong long-term financial model at its 2026 Investor Day, projecting revenue to sustain mid-to-high double-digit growth from FY2028 to FY2030 and committing to return 100% of remaining cash to shareholders. This move not only sparked a nearly 14% surge in SanDisk's stock price, but also cleared market doubts regarding memory bit growth and oversupply, triggering a powerful rally across peer stocks.

On June 25 this year, Micron's stock price hit an all-time high of $1,255. Although its subsequent earnings report delivered strong results, it was interpreted by investors as the cyclical peak for revenue and profit margins. Influenced by this, hedging transactions began to emerge in some derivatives markets anticipating an imminent peak in AI memory (DRAM/HBM) prices. Meanwhile, executive cash-outs at peak levels—particularly the Micron CEO's Rule 10b5-1 stock sale plan—further fueled panic over whether the industry was entering a downcycle of oversupply, leading to a deep pullback of 30% to 40% in the memory sector in July.

Market concerns over memory oversupply essentially stem from applying the old 2018/2022 cyclical framework to the new physical reality of the AI era in 2026. Now, SanDisk's release of astonishingly strong long-term financial guidance has given the market immense confidence. In response, Andrew Jackson, head of Japan equity strategy at Ortus Advisors, noted, "A few years ago, it was unheard of for NAND flash manufacturers to provide such precise long-term forecasts. Compared to more volatile spot memory prices, long-term agreements could help smooth out the classic boom-and-bust cycle."

From the perspective of current industry supply and demand as well as technical indicators, Micron possesses strong momentum to break through the key $1,000 threshold in the short term. Currently, the stock price has broken out of its downward channel, reversing its downtrend and signaling a strong bullish trend that is expected to attract capital back into the stock. In addition, once a volume-backed breakout above this key level occurs, it will directly trigger quantitative algorithmic momentum buying and short covering, accelerating its advance well past $1,000.
