Microsoft (MSFT) bought 8.55 million metric tons of carbon removal credits year-to-date through mid-July, about 80% less than it bought over the same period last year, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing calculations by BloombergNEF.

Meanwhile, the company's carbon footprint has been growing, as the tech giant saw its emissions grow by 25% last year, the report said, citing Microsoft's latest sustainability report.

Microsoft didn't immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
