Market Chatter: Microsoft Reduces China Operations

Microsoft (MSFT) is reducing its footprint in China, Reuters reported Thursday.

The company has closed at least 15 Microsoft branch offices and joint ventures in China, the report said, citing corporate filings and unnamed company sources describing a strategy of "retreat."

Growing mistrust between China and the US, as well as faltering profits and geopolitical risk, have prompted the company's steady but quiet withdrawal from the market, the report said.

Microsoft did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
