MT Newswires Live08-21 18:54

SK Hynix (SKHY) is moving forward with construction of a memory chip fab in the northeastern Japanese prefecture of Miyagi, news outlet Hankyoreh reported Friday.

The investment will total tens of trillions of Korean won (10 trillion won = $7.22 billion) and establish SK Hynix as the first Korean semiconductor manufacturer to make a major investment in Japan, the report said.

SK Hynix did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment. Reuters cited a spokesperson as saying that no decision has yet been made on the investment.
