The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Enterprise Singapore developed it through the Singapore Standards Council, with input from operators, technology providers, consultants, and researchers.\nMost data centres in Singapore use air cooling. However, servers running AI applications can consume up to 50 times the power of conventional racks used for general-purpose computing. Liquid cooling can reduce cooling-related energy consumption by more than 30% compared with conventional air-cooling systems, according to industry estimates cited by IMDA and EnterpriseSG.\nSS 726 addresses challenges that have slowed wider use of the technology. Liquid-cooling systems require pumps, piping and heat exchangers, and leaks or poor fluid management can damage IT equipment and cause downtime. Retrofitting existing air-cooled facilities can also involve higher upfront costs and complex installation work.\nThe standard sets out best practices for the full lifecycle of liquid-cooling infrastructure, from initial design, pre-deployment and commissioning to day-to-day operations. It covers cooling-loop design, floor loading, piping materials, fluid quality, monitoring and the integration of coolant-distribution units with existing air-cooling systems.\nIt also provides methods to measure water-utilisation efficiency, developed with input from the national water agency PUB.\nIn addition, SS 726 is designed for high heat and humidity, which can increase the risk of corrosion, microbial growth, and biofilms in cooling fluid. It adapts specifications from the Open Compute Project and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers for Singapore conditions.\n\"SS 726 gives data centre operators, technology providers and customers a trusted benchmark for designing, deploying and scaling liquid cooling systems safely and reliably in tropical conditions.
