U.S. natural gas inventories likely saw a smaller-than-average increase last week as continuing hot weather across much of the country drove high power-sector demand, according to a Wall Street Journal survey of analysts.
Net injections into underground storage facilities are seen at 21 billion cubic feet for the week ended Aug. 21, according to the average estimate of 12 analysts, brokers and traders. Estimates range from a storage injection of 11 Bcf to an injection of 32 Bcf.
The increase would leave stocks at 3,190 Bcf, or 173 Bcf above the 2021-2025 average, compared with a 185 Bcf surplus the previous week. The deficit to the year-ago storage level would shrink to 24 Bcf from 28 Bcf the week before.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration is scheduled to report natural gas storage on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
