Meta Platforms (META) faced a demand from a Polish official on Thursday to pay a 250 million euro ($291.4 million) fine over its publishing of "harmful advertisements and fraudulent content targeting Poles."
Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski said in a post on X that he had formally requested that the European Commission punish Meta, adding "There is more than enough evidence."
He also called on Meta to implement tools to rid its social media platforms of "scams, fake advertisements, and the promotion of illegal applications."
Meta did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
