Trump: Denies forcing Iran to bargain, touts Strait control

U.S. President Donald Trump on September 2 posted on social media platform X, denying that he is trying to force Iran to the bargaining table and expressing satisfaction with the current U.S. position of near-total control over the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's collapsing economy.

Trump wrote: "I’m not trying to force Iran to the bargaining table, as ABC Fake News reported. I couldn’t care less if they sign a worthless, to them, agreement. I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz Strait, and their economy totally collapsing. They are just playing out the inevitable. When are the Iranian people going to rise up and fight?"

Trump's remarks continue his hardline stance on Iran. Since the U.S. withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal and reimposed sanctions, Iran's economy has suffered severely, and navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz has become a regional focus. There are currently no signs of an imminent change in the Iranian government or widespread popular protests.
