Hong Kong Stocks Open Higher as Wall Street Rebound Lifts Sentiment

MT Newswires Live09:44

Hong Kong stocks opened higher on Thursday as a rebound in U.S. equities and easing Treasury yields improved investor sentiment.

The Hang Seng Index rose 0.7%, or 171.35 points, to open at 25,482.56, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gained 0.7%, or 63.02 points, to 8,513.12.

Wall Street stocks rebounded on Wednesday after three sessions of losses.

Oil prices rose about 1% as renewed U.S.-Iran fighting raised concerns over supply disruptions. Brent crude settled at $95.63 a barrel, up 1%.

Markets also increased bets on a September Federal Reserve rate hike following weaker-than-expected U.S. private employment data.
