Consumer stocks were mixed late Tuesday afternoon, with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) increasing 0.3% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) falling 1.8%.

In corporate news, August registrations for new Tesla (TSLA) vehicles, a proxy for sales, rose by 279% in France and 104% in Denmark from a year ago, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing data from French car industry body PFA and Danish vehicle data platform bilstatistik.dk. Meanwhile, registrations in Norway and Spain fell by 79%, and they fell in Sweden, Portugal and Italy by 41%, 37% and 36%, respectively, the report said, citing data from industry groups and Italy's Transport Ministry. Tesla shares were down 3.2%.
