Stanley Black & Decker's Unit Sale Shows Portfolio Optimization Bona Fides
Dow Jones04:02
1602 ET - Stanley Black & Decker's decision to sell its turf-care business isn't a surprise, but shows that the company is taking its portfolio optimization seriously, Jefferies analysts write in a note. "Today's definitive agreement to sell Excel Industries indicates management's commitment to prioritize brands in its portfolio with the highest earnings potential," the analysts write. The deal should unlock growth capital for the company's other brands and allow for increased debt repayments, they add. The company, "with a narrowed portfolio of brands, is now more committed to organic growth than in recent past," the analysts write. Shares gained 0.9%.
