President Donald Trump announced on social media platform X on September 4 that his former attorney Michael Cohen has fully recanted his testimony against Trump. Trump said Cohen was the "Star Witness and, in actuality, only Witness" in the cases brought by the New York State Attorney General and the Manhattan District Attorney, and that Cohen was "pressured" and "coerced" to say things that were not true.
"I am pleased to report that Michael Cohen, the Prosecution's Star Witness ... has just fully RECANTED his testimony. He was 'pressured' and 'coerced' to say things that were not true," Trump wrote. He thanked Cohen for "having the Wisdom and Courage to step forward and do the right thing," calling the act "a Great Credit to the Justice System in New York City and State."
Trump then called for the immediate termination and dismissal of "any remnant of those Politically Weaponized Cases against me," stating that "their Star Witness said everything they did was WRONG and UNLAWFUL!" He also accused New York Attorney General Letitia James and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of "breaking the Law in order to prevent me from becoming the President of the United States," adding that "such a thing can never be allowed to happen again!"
