Qualcomm Technologies and Amazon have agreed to collaborate on developing customized silicon and high-bandwidth optical interconnectivity for Amazon's artificial intelligence data centers.

The collaboration brings together Amazon's comprehensive, secure AI infrastructure with Qualcomm Technologies' processing, silicon design and system-level integration to scale AI inference workloads.

Under the agreement, the companies will collaborate on optical connectivity solutions reaching speeds of up to 1.6 terabits per second, using Qualcomm's SerDes and optical digital signal processor technologies.

Qualcomm, a technology company, will expand its use of Amazon Web Services' cloud services and Amazon Bedrock to run electronic design automation workloads aimed at reducing chip design cycles.

The move comes as major tech companies are racing to scale their AI infrastructure, driving a wave of record-setting deals to secure custom silicon, power capacity and next-generation connectivity.

Qualcomm shares rose 6.6% to $179.36 Tuesday morning.
