Market Chatter: Broadcom's VMware Licensing Overhaul Draws More EU Antitrust Scrutiny

MT Newswires Live19:26

Broadcom (AVGO) is facing stricter European Union antitrust oversight regarding its revised VMware software licensing framework following its $61 billion acquisition, Bloomberg News reported Friday, citing a July questionnaire sent to cloud vendors.

EU regulators requested details from impacted cloud firms regarding VMware's necessity, alternative software availability, restrictive certification terms, and regional market scale, the news outlet reported.

The regulatory probe comes ahead of a March-end deadline after which certain cloud providers risk losing access to sell VMware subscriptions under Broadcom's updated partner program, according to the report.

Broadcom did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
