Toyota Motor (TYO:7203) intends to deploy 400,000 in-house-developed humanoid robots across its worldwide production sites as part of factory upgrades, Nikkei Asia reported on Friday.
The ELEY robot, weighing 50 kilograms with two-fingered arms, moves on wheels and draws power from batteries and a cord, the news daily said.
Beginning in 2028, Toyota and group companies will invest 1 trillion yen annually in factory renovations, placing 150,000 robots at Toyota's own plants and 250,000 at group facilities, the publication said.
Toyota did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
