Trump: White House to target fake news, not free press

President Donald Trump on September 21 posted on X that the White House is not attacking the free press but is instead targeting what he calls "FAKE NEWS."

"The White House is not instituting an assault on the Free Press, something which I cherish. It is instituting an assault on the FAKE NEWS, something that has grown like Cancer in our beloved United States of America," Trump wrote. He described fake news as "corrupt, purposeful, pervasive, fully coordinated, and totally out of control."

Trump declared fake news "a threat to our National Security, and must be stopped, NOW!" He concluded with "Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP."

The remarks drew attention as Trump has frequently criticized mainstream media, accusing it of disseminating false reports. This post draws a clear line between protecting press freedom and combating what he terms fake news.
