India's Core Sectors Log 4.8% Growth in August

India's Index of Core Industries (ICI) provisionally increased by 4.8% year over year in August, compared with 5% in July, according to data released Monday.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Office of the Economic Adviser said the production of cement, electricity, iron ore, steel, and refinery products saw growth of 12.5%, 11.6%, 5.5%, 3.4%, and 2.6%, respectively.

On the other hand, coal, natural gas, crude oil, and fertilizers recorded negative growth in the month.

The cumulative growth rate of ICI during April-August stood at 4.3% according to provisional estimates, up from 2.4% a year prior.
