Singapore shares fell on Thursday, tracking an overnight drop on Wall Street and broader regional weakness as rising oil prices and robust US economic data fueled fears of further interest rate hikes.
The Straits Times Index (STI), a key benchmark for the Singapore Exchange, ranged between 5,677.91 and 5,713.62 throughout the day. It ended the session at 5,683.37, down 26.54 points or 0.5% compared to Wednesday's close.
On the corporate front, shares of Multi-Chem (SGX:AWZ) dipped over 16% at the close as its subsidiary, M.Tech Products, received a notice from a key vendor for the suspension of all orders and business development activities.
Keppel REIT (SGX:K71U) was down nearly 2% at the close as it agreed to divest its entire 100% stake in T Tower, South Korea, for 348.8 billion won.
Meanwhile, shares of HRnetGroup (SGX:CHZ) closed nearly 1% lower even after its subsidiary HRnet Assets acquired two office suites in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for 7.3 million ringgit.
