CoreCivic President, CEO Patrick Swindle Resigns for Health Reasons

CoreCivic's president and chief executive, Patrick Swindle, has resigned for health reasons after less than a year at the helm of the private prison operator.

CoreCivic on Friday said Lucibeth Mayberry, previously executive vice president and chief strategy officer, will now serve as president and CEO of the Brentwood, Tenn., company.

Swindle, who is pursuing treatment for stage-four metastatic pancreatic cancer, has also resigned from CoreCivic's board, and the company said it has appointed Mayberry to fill the vacancy.

Swindle, who joined CoreCivic in 2007, has been president since January 2025 and became CEO at the start of 2026. Mayberry has been with CoreCivic since 2003.
