Meta Platforms (META) lost a jury trial in New Mexico, which found that the company misled the state's residents in a case over Cambridge Analytica data scandal, Reuters reported Friday, citing footage from Courtroom View Network.

The verdict followed a two-week trial in a lawsuit filed by New Mexico's attorney general in 2021, the report said.

Following the verdict, Judge Francis Mathew will decide on the monetary penalties for the violations found by the jury, according to the report.

A Meta spokesperson told MT Newswires in an emailed response that the company disagrees with the verdict and will defend itself against efforts to distort its record.

"We have a First Amendment right to manage those platforms in a way we believe best serves the interests of our community," the spokesperson said, adding that it would prioritize free speech and safeguard user data.
