The Stock Market Faces a Triple Threat but it Can Emerge Victorious

Dow Jones09-28 19:42

The stock market is facing a triple threat to start the week, but there's reason to hope it can overcome all three of its nemeses.

Oil prices and bond yields are putting stocks under pressure, while artificial-intelligence safety fears are also back.

Brent crude prices have jumped around 4% back above $100 a barrel after the U.S. and Iran failed to broker a deal to end the war in the Middle East. Bond yields were rising in step.

But significantly, President Donald Trump said Sunday that negotiations will carry on-a breakthrough this week would be a big boost for stocks.

AI safety is a concern again after OpenAI said it has halted the training of its latest models. But the drops in Sandisk, Micron, Marvell and other tech stocks are less severe than when the AI giants called for a global slowdown two weeks ago. AI stocks overcame that scare, too.
