Trevi Therapeutics' Sample Size Re-estimation for Chronic Cough Trial Likely Positive, Oppenheimer Says

Trevi Therapeutics' (TRVI) upcoming sample size re-estimation for its phase 2b trial of Haduvio in refractory chronic cough is expected to yield positive results, Oppenheimer said in a note Friday.

The brokerage said it would consider a recommendation to continue the trial without any changes or increase enrollment as positive, with the upsizing scenario simply serving to increase the chance of showing statistical significance.

RBC said it would be surprised if the check results in futility, given Haduvio's clinical record across chronic cough settings. In case this happens, data from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis-related cough studies would offer downside protection, the brokerage said.

The sample size re-estimation analysis is anticipated in Q4, with management expected to provide definitive guidance with its Q3 financial results, according to the note.

Oppenheimer has an outperform rating on the stock, with a price target of $25.
