Blue Owl Capital's (OWL) Stack Infrastructure unit faces a one-year delay to its Jupiter data center project in New Mexico, Reuters reported Friday, citing an unnamed person familiar with the matter.

Media outlets have reported Thursday that Oracle (ORCL) issued a force majeure notice to Stack, seeking to defer payments if the project is delayed and does not begin operating in 2028 as planned.

Oracle invoked force majeure because of delays in securing power for the site, a source told Reuters.

Blue Owl has about $3 billion of equity invested in the project, the source said. The asset manager earns a lower return during construction, with returns increasing after the data center is completed, according to the person.

Blue Owl said the parties remain aligned on the project and the notice does not alter their financial commitments, Reuters reported.

Reuters, citing interviews with bankers and investors, also reported that Oracle's force majeure notice has made lenders and investors more cautious about financing AI infrastructure projects.
