Singapore Manpower Ministry Mandates Fire-Retardant Scaffold Netting From March 2027

Singapore's Ministry of Manpower will require scaffold netting to be made of fire-retardant materials for newly awarded projects from March 1, 2027, Minister of State for Manpower Dinesh Vasu Dash said Thursday.

The requirement will apply regardless of the scaffold material and is aimed at reducing fire risks at worksites. Occupiers, scaffold contractors, manufacturers and suppliers must ensure the netting has been tested under one of three established international fire-test standards identified by the ministry and the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

The ministry will issue a circular setting out the scope, acceptable fire-test standards and compliance measures, including labelling and certification requirements, it said.
