Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930) and five affiliates will jointly invest $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, an AI infrastructure company founded by global investment firm KKR, according to a statement on Tuesday.
The affiliates are Samsung C&T (KRX:028260), Samsung SDS (KRX:018260), Samsung SDI (KRX:006400), Samsung Life Insurance (KRX:032830) and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance (KRX:000810).
Launched in June, Helix provides integrated solutions spanning hyperscale data center development and operations, power generation, transmission and distribution, and fiber-optic networks, with leadership from former AWS CEO Adam Selipsky. KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, NVIDIA and US power company Vistra are also founding investors.
Helix plans to secure energy capacity through direct investments and partnerships with major energy developers.
The investment reflects Samsung's strategic push to move beyond hardware supply into becoming an architect of the global AI infrastructure ecosystem, leveraging its affiliates' expertise in semiconductors, cooling systems, EPC contracting, data center operations, GPUaaS and backup power.
